Here's the newest eye candy, mostly assuring you will come away saying "Can we have Zack Snyder make more Super Hero movies?? PleaseOPleaseOPlease??" After all, the guy made a movie with battling warrior Owls AND IT WAS GOOD!!!

Superman: Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder. The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”). Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

So now the collectors out there are getting anxious for some Man of Steel merchandise news, and we are more than happy to bring you up to date.

Mattel

Mattel's lineup for Man of Steel contains the most spoilers...as they are actually SHOWING their goods...so be warned..spoilers ahead. Bleeding Cool scooped these sizzle reels off the global interwebs and delivered faster than a speeding bullet. Behold...mighty eye candy...

The vids show a tease of Superman Flight Speeders, an extremely kid-friendly line for the Spring of 2013. Basically, we see nerf-like Superman and a spaceship as dart gun and dart! Rather ingenious! The largest, silver ship is called The Fortress of Solitude in the sizzle and is massive enough to mount two other ships (with Superman creating a blaze before him and Superman...fighting...Venom?), one on either side, for multi-firing at your enemy or sleeping uncle. It took some doing, but we've determined the fourth ship belongs to ZOD.

This next vid shows Superman: Exploders, which employs Stretch-Armstrong technology on parts of the figures to allow for launching across the room and into targets. Individual figures seem to include Superman in the Black and Silver, all Red and two different classic Blue and Red costume schemes. You'll also be able to find Zod and a Horde Trooper he obviously borrowed from the retro cartoon zone, which is right alongside the Phantom Zone, as you well know. BEHOLD!!!

I'm going to assume the Supermans will come with the flat Trooper targets and Zod with flat Superman, all trying to convey just WHO is number 1. Those troops actually double as launchers, so we'll assume the flat Superman does as well. Looking at the hands, it seems flat Superman launches Zod, while the flat Troopers launch Superman. I'd gather the break apart tank and the Black Zero Spaceship come with the smaller trooper targets. We are betting on the Black Zero as being the most difficult for adults to pass up, as the damn thing ROTATES!! Sure, you can't actually activate the Gravity Beam, but blowing up the ship will make for a fine, geeky drinking game.

You can be sure Mattel will have at least 2 separate series of actual action figures; one for kids in a smaller scale and one 6 inch Movie Masters with some sort of Build-A-Figure element. Since these 6 inch figures are aimed at us, they won't shy away from strictly human characters and perhaps a Black Zero build-a-vehicle, though my wish would be for a Build-a-Fortress of Solitude!! PLEASEOPLEASEOPLEASE The Movie Masters lineup for Dark Knight Rises rounded out to 7 figures with pieces of the Bat Signal...which once again proved difficult to complete as the last figures turned up...nowhere. The Man of Steel lineup could possibly include central chatacters Jor-El, Superman, Zod and Faora alongside Lois Lane, Clark Kent and a Zod Trooper. Notice I'm saying POSSIBLY, because we've heard nothing about a Movie Masters Man of Steel line, but there's no reason for Mattel to stop with that format now! I can't see them delving much deeper into the character pool that this though, so if they make the Black Zero, we'll either need big pieces or suffer an under-scale spaceship.

Lastly, I thought we'd take a look at a stack of children's and young adult books waiting to fill your kid's shelves. At first, as we were translating info sent from across the globe, I got all excited when I came across a title "Cyborg Superman"...!!! This excitement was quickly deflated when I realized there were also books naming Doomsday and Mr. Mxyzptlk. Ah well..they can't ALL be in the new movie, but at least we can pass the stories onto our tiny loved ones. New books include...

Cyborg Superman (DC Super Heroes: The Man of Steel) - When an unusual solar flare damages his space shuttle and causes astronaut Hank Henshaw and his crew--including his wife--to mutate, he blames Superman and as his surviving consciousness learns to fuse with technology he vows revenge. For elementary and junior high school
Night of a Thousand Doomsdays (DC Super Heroes: The Man of Steel) - Queen Bloorga and her clonemaster, Gorka, have created thousands of clones of Doomsday, Superman's old enemy, and are using them to invade Earth--and it will be up to Superman to stop them.
The Moon Bandits (DC Super Heroes: The Man of Steel) - A team of Xenoformers from Galaxy X are stealing the Moon and causing havoc on Earth, and while Superman tries to stop the aliens, he has to depend on Lex Luthor to defend Metropolis from massive tidal waves--but Lex has his own nefarious plans.
Mxy's Magical Mayhem (DC Super Heroes: The Man of Steel) - Mr. Mxyzptlk, a mischievous imp from the Fifth Dimension, is on the loose in Metropolis, and causing mayhem with his tricks--so it is up to Superman to find a way to reverse the magic and send Mxy back where he belongs.
